Buying rv insurance

Although park model homes are classified as recreational vehicles, these homes are not designed for frequent travelling like other RV types. In fact, most residents consider them all-in-one homes that can be transported on the back of a semi-truck.

Originally developed as seasonal or temporary homes, park models were once legally limited to a size of 400 square feet, but over time the maximum size of these homes increased to 560 square feet. Still, their small footprint and the ability to move and place a park model home in a variety of locations have made these homes quite popular as both primary as well as secondary or vacation homes.

Despite the smaller footprint, park model homes come in a variety of configurations that include one-, two- or even three-bedroom units that include full-size bathroom, living and dining room, kitchen (with full-size appliances), and even a laundry room. Living space can be dramatically increased by adding covered porches, large patios, and decks with outdoor grills and fire pits. For extra storage, many park model home owners will build outdoor sheds—although all these add-ons depend on the size of the lot.

The key is to purchase a park model home that provides enough day-to-day space for your needs. So, if you only rarely have overnight guests, you may want to skip the second or third bedroom, which will give more space to other rooms. If, however, you want the kids or grandkids to come and stay, consider a model that provides enough beds to accommodate everyone, but without giving up your living space. To get a better idea, consider shopping online and talking to dealers and manufacturers, who have access to catalogues that can help you pick the best floor space configuration for your needs.

Since park model homes come in a several standard models, with varying floor plans and amenities, their price range can start at $90,000 and can easily climb up to $200,000. Plus, almost every park model home can be heavily customized. To minimize upgrade and re-engineering costs, try and pick a model with a floor plan that most closely matches what you require. Finally, while there are different size park model homes most people opt for the 12-foot model. These models need professional movers to be relocated but are much bigger and offer more living space.

Before purchasing talk to the RV resort or campground where you plan to locate your park model home. That’s because each park will have limitations on installation and size, as well as hook-up restrictions.

Because park model homes can be the perfect family getaway or snowbird retreat, it’s important to protect this vacation property. Whether placed in an RV park, campground, or private land, comprehensive park model insurance plans can protect your investment. If buying used, remember to ask how old the roof is and whether a “roof-over” was added (and when it was put on)? Some insurance companies will require a roof inspection before issuing a park model home insurance policy. Talk to your independent insurance broker for more details on how to protect your park model home investment.
